About Avangard Siberians:

We spoil our Siberians and hope you will do the same.  We try to enrich their lives with plenty of toys, a little adventure, treating them to new sights, sounds and scents.  Siberians don't want to be bored or frustrated with a humdrum life anymore than you do.  Avangard Siberians enjoy the companionship of people, other cats of both sexes, including intacts and alters, friendly dogs and other animals as well.  Having an active enriched life makes for a healthier cat emotionally and physically.  This works for cats as well as people to preserve flexibility and increased adaptability to change.

Avangard Siberians are energetic, healthy cats of high intelligence and have great affection for their people.  The females live in the house and also enjoy a 12 ft.X 20 ft. back porch plus a 12 ft. X 24 ft. chain link enclosure off this porch to romp and play in.  They can enjoy fresh air and sunshine in all seasons in safety.  Most of the males share an insulated garage which is cool in summer and heated with propane in winter.  They also have all season access to their own large chain link enclosure attached to the garage which has 2 cat houses for them to use when they prefer the outside scenery and flirting with the females in the other enclosure across the lawn.  All of the Siberians enjoy watching the birds or the occasional deer that strolls through our 2 1/2 acre yard.  Other wildlife coming into the yard provide entertainment as well.

Avangard kittens are cuddled and stroked regularly from the time they are about 9-10 days old.  They get plenty of tender loving care from people as well as their mom, older siblings and other adult cats to make sure they are well socialized.  The males are quite family oriented when given the chance, and very gentle with their babies, just as their dads were to them when they were little tots.

At Avangard we made the arbitrary decision that all females must be at least 1 year old and have been through at least 4 heats before we feel they are mature enough to participate in "romance" and motherhood.  Some may be one and a half years old before they are allowed their first romance.  Males kept for breeding are usually between one and a half and two and a half years old before they get their chance to be fathers.

Our kittens are vaccinated and inspected by our Veterinarian at regular intervals and have been found to be clean, healthy, energetic little souls with personality plus.

Breed Profile:

The Siberian Cat is a natural survival breed that has existed in its Russian homeland for hundreds of years, and was shown in cat shows as early as the 1700's. Siberians are recent arrivals to the United States, coming to this country in June 1990. They are a large, strong cat with a thick, bushy tail, muscular body and dense fur. Weight ranges from about 8 to 12 pounds for females and 10 to 18 pounds for males.

Siberians are playful throughout life, being an active breed. They are very affectionate and devoted to their people, being loyal and loving companions. Siberians are very intelligent and are easy to train with their gentle, good-natured, dog like personalities. Siberians enjoy being handled and cuddled, and they love to "help" their people do things at every opportunity. Generally quiet, they speak with purrs, chirps, & squeaks and body language. Many of them like to mouth fingers and toes, even giving soft "love bites" to their loved ones. They mature in 4 to 5 years with most of their size reached before they are 3 years old.  Time after that is for filling out and maturing.

Hypo Allergenic:

Siberians are quite unique in that they have little or no of the felD-1 protein that most people with allergies react to. The felD-1 protein is secreted through the sebaceous glands in the skin which are stimulated by licking when the cat grooms itself. Since most Siberians have little or no felD-1 protein, they cause little or no reaction in most people with cat allergies or asthma.

Many allergy prone people can enjoy this large, long-haired cat without suffering allergic reactions.  (I speak from personal experience, being asthmatic and allergic to cats in general.  With Siberians I can have a multi-cat  household with no wheezing and no asthma from the Siberians, even when I bury my face in their thick fur.)

Siberian cats have beautiful, easily maintained triple coats only needing brushing when they're shedding their winter coats in spring or early summer, but they like to be brushed and pampered anytime you're willing, so you don't have to wait until spring shedding to build a brushing/grooming bond.
